Seven students from Leeds Beckett University’s Leeds School of Arts will have their original fashion collections showcased at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week between 20 and 24 June at Coal Drops Yard, London.
The event is an excellent opportunity for recent fashion graduates and students to showcase their work on a national level and meet industry experts. Leeds School of Arts’ involvement will strengthen industry connections between London and West Yorkshire, bringing new and aspiring fashion designers from the region under the spotlight.
As part of the event, fashion retailers at Coal Drops Yard have chosen student work to feature in their stores throughout the week, which will offer students an unprecedented chance to showcase their designs. Four student collections from Leeds School of Arts have been chosen by retailers: ‘Breaking Free From OCD’ by Grace Deacon, chosen by COS, ‘Django Docks’ by Polly Coleman, chosen by Fred Perry, ‘XX121’ by Diandra Dicu and ‘Extreme Winters’ by Niamh Molloy, both chosen by Tom Dixon.
In addition, three student collections will appear on the catwalk on Thursday, 23 June: ‘N17’ by Rebecca Sherrington, ‘On The Set of Down With Love’, by Anna Stubley, and ‘Be The Distraction’ by Megan Turbett.
Sam Hudson-Miles, Course Director for BA (Hons) Fashion at Leeds Beckett University’s Leeds School of Arts said: “The Fashion team at Leeds Beckett University encourages our students to express their individual, diverse identities through their unique approaches to ‘fashion thinking’. Synthesising experimental practice and theory enables our students to create original work in a saturated marketplace; work that rejects the world of fast fashion in favour of innovation, sustainability, and longevity.
“We celebrate our Class of 2022, particularly in recognition of the extraordinary journey that they’ve experienced through their degree. Being selected to participate at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week is an incredible achievement for them and a positive and productive way to conclude their degrees. We congratulate our students on their resilience and wish them great success in their future careers.”
