Delivered by the University of Huddersfield, Elevate will provide mentoring and access to specialist advice and support to supercharge the growth of start-ups.

WHAT IS ELEVATE?

Kirklees Council is passionate about supporting new and early stage businesses in their growth journey, as they play a critical role within the local economy.

This is even more important now in light of the pandemic.

The project will form an important part of the local ecosystem of business advice and the Council is delighted to be providing support for the project.

Facilitated by leading academics, and supported by business mentors, Elevate will bring together individuals from ambitious, young businesses to develop the leadership capabilities in your organization.

Elevate has been designed to introduce a series of crucial questions that you should be asking of yourself and your business in these turbulent times – the answers to which could help identify new opportunities for growth within your businesses.

The programme is led by Prof John Nicholson, Chair of Strategy as Huddersfield Business School

The sessions will be thought provoking and seek to open-up new avenues for business development and growth. The sessions will be interspersed with sessions with a professional business mentor which will allow participant companies to identify new avenues for growth or better focus on existing growth trajectories.

• Strategic contrariness – We will begin a discussion of how to think about growth trajectories outside the rules of the game and we will explore the underlying strategic assumptions about your business. The session will explore how to generate options in existing markets and think about new growth in blue oceans. We will also look at how to be a disruptive innovator and indeed how to detect and defend against the threat of disruptive innovation.
• The curious mindset – We will explore the identification and creation of entrepreneurial opportunities as distinctive paths to growth. This session gives you an opportunity to learn how to unleash your curiosity and creative potential. We will use a variety of techniques such as photo elicitation and Lego ™ Serious Play ™ to unleash the growth potential of your firm.
• Managing my leadership – The session will cover the transition from leading oneself in the entrepreneurial start-up to leading others as the firm grows. The session will cover learning to lead and managing people as strategic assets of a growing firm.
• New economy and customers – Challenge your marketing assumptions, harness the power of your networks and segment your market for the 21st The session will cover getting the best of digital opportunities and how to get the best out of big data on a budget.
