Businesses in Calderdale have joined forces to support WomenCentre by funding emergency backpacks of supplies for women and children arriving at refuges in the region.
The initiative was launched by Full Circle Funerals at Crossley Hill in Halifax after funeral director Nicola Kenyon heard about the charity’s need for practical items to see victims of domestic violence through the first few days away from home.
Nicola said: “Pressure on services supporting victims of domestic violence has never been greater and those first few hours and days away from home can be daunting.
“We decided to co-ordinate a local campaign to create backpacks filled with care products and essentials, sponsored by local businesses.”
Nicola and the Full Circle Team have been overwhelmed by the response from businesses in and around Halifax.
They started out with a target to deliver 20 backpacks costing £20 each to WomenCentre by the end of February.
“Within weeks of launching the campaign in January we had received donations totalling more than £1,550 from big-hearted local businesses,” said Nicola.
“The generosity and compassion that has been shown by the Calderdale business community has been incredible and we can’t thank people enough for their support, encouragement and generosity.
“Full Circle Funerals works closely with many community organisations as part of our role to support people in Calderdale who are bereaved and that brings us in contact with many organisations who have a wide variety of roles supporting those in need.
“We are delighted to be supporting the WomenCentre along with fellow businesses in the area.”
Full Circle is now looking for a local business to match fund the total raised by the campaign.
Businesses that have supported the campaign include: LCF Law, Yorkshire Payments, Core Facility, Pabasso, Wild and Co Accountants, The Private Office and Chadwick Lawrence Solicitor.
