Deadline approaching for COVID business support

Published 24th Aug 2020 by Emma Sinfield

Time is running out for businesses to claim grant support to help minimise the impact of COVID-19 under the small business grant fund and retail, hospitality and leisure grant schemes.

Although the deadline has now passed for the COVID-19 discretionary business grant scheme and no new applications can be considered, funding has been made available from the Government for Calderdale Council to issue grants of £10,000 to small businesses and a grant of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses, subject to qualifying criteria. The Council has already paid out over £58 million worth of grants, supporting over 5000 local businesses.

The Government has announced that the application process for these grants will close on Friday 28 August 2020.

Any businesses yet to apply for the funding are encouraged to do so as soon as possible, to ensure they benefit from the support available.

Application forms are available at https://www.calderdale.gov.uk/v2/businesses/business-rates/covid-19-business-support Businesses are advised to complete all the information on the forms to enable the Council to verify the business information. This will help speed up the process and allow payments to be made sooner.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Strategy, Cllr Jane Scullion, said:

“There’s no doubt that this has been a difficult year for our local businesses and we want to make sure no one misses out on this important funding.

“Over 5000 local businesses have already received a share of over £58 million. There’s now very little time for further businesses to benefit, and with the deadline for applications looming, it’s important that any eligible business yet to apply, does so as soon as possible.

“We want to see local businesses survive and thrive in spite of these challenging times.”

The Council will work through any new applications as quickly as possible. Grant payments will be received by businesses before the end of September 2020.
