Three leading figures from the film, policy and sport sectors have pledged their support to The Piece Hall Trust by becoming patrons of the charity.

The new patrons are critically acclaimed writer and film director Mark Herman, public affairs and campaigns expert Tom Lees and England Rugby Union legend Brian Moore.

From the world of film, award winning Yorkshire-born and Hollywood destined film director Mark Herman has lent his name to the patron list. Mark directed the 90s classic ‘Little Voice’ starring Jane Horrocks and Sir Michael Caine MBE, who received a Golden Globe for his performance. He also wrote and directed the poignant and moving film ‘Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ which also received critical acclaim. Mark recently returned to The Piece Hall and took part in a Q&A focused on his career and Hollywood experiences, ahead of The Piece Hall’s inaugural outdoor cinema screening of his much loved 1996 film ‘Brassed Off’. The film features the iconic Piece Hall courtyard in several scenes. Mark has always had a fond affection for The Piece Hall and was ‘honoured’ to be asked to be a patron.

The Trust are also delighted to welcome England rugby legend Brian Moore, who was raised in nearby Illingworth. Moore is the most capped England rugby union player and now works as a pundit for BBC Sport and Talksport.

Brian Moore said: “I am really proud to become a patron of The Piece Hall Trust. Halifax is where I was raised and The Piece Hall is one of the jewels in Yorkshire’s crown. I look forward to supporting the team in making The Piece Hall one of the most recognised and important heritage assets in the UK.”

Also joining the lineup up of luminaries as patron is Tom Lees, a true Halifax success story. A highly respected expert in the world of strategy and policy he is the Managing Director and owner of national corporate communications firm Bradshaw Advisory. The company is advising Government and the Northern Powerhouse on its strategies and plans to enable the North to ‘Power Up’. Prior to this, Tom worked as Global Head of Corporate Affairs at Mace Group and, in policy, he worked for former Secretary of State for Health, Rt Hon Baroness Virginia Bottomley DL, and the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP when he was Secretary of State for Education. Tom is passionate about Halifax and is pleased to represent The Piece Hall.

Patrons of The Piece Hall play a vital ambassadorial role for the Trust, championing the charity, its development and Halifax within their spheres of influence. Other patrons include world record breaking wheelchair racer Hannah Cockcroft MBE, Liberal Democrat politician Lord David Shutt MBE and award-winning Yorkshire-born actor and director Reece Dinsdale.

Nicky Chance-Thompson, Chief Executive of the Trust, commented: “We are very proud of our association with such successful and inspiring individuals who will be the most fantastic ambassadors for the Trust. It’s an absolute honour to welcome Mark, Brian and Tom, and I look forward to working with them to raise the profile of this incredible building.”
