Halifax legal professional Maureen Cawthorn is celebrating this week having marked thirty years as a qualified solicitor.
Maureen, Managing Director at town centre law firm Wilkinson Woodward, qualified as a Solicitor on the 1st February 1989.
After qualifying Maureen began her legal career in the fields of litigation and employment law. Following short spells at legal practices in Manchester and Leeds, Maureen joined the Litigation department at Wilkinson Woodward in 1992.
In 2007 Maureen achieved a notarial qualification from Cambridge University. Maureen is one of just a handful of Notary Publics in Calderdale and over the past decade she has built up a busy and highly regarded Notary practice, helping both individuals and businesses with a wide range of international legal documents.
Later the same year Maureen became Managing Partner at Wilkinson Woodard and has guided the long-established legal practice through continuous growth for the past twelve years. Maureen oversaw the 2012 merger with Huddersfield legal practice Norcliffe and Co and a further merger with Bearders Solicitors of Brighouse in 2013.
Speaking of her three decades in the legal profession, fellow Director Andrew Crabtree said,
“Maureen’s reputation as a highly skilled solicitor, Notary Public and Managing Director is well deserved. Under her leadership, Wilkinson Woodward continues to develop in size, expertise and capability. We’re delighted to be marking her thirtieth year as a qualified solicitor.”
Today Maureen divides her time between her management responsibilities and a substantial caseload of notary, employment and litigation work. She is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Notary Society.
Outside work, Maureen is a Trustee of The Next Step Trust, a Halifax-based charity for young adults with complex needs, where her legal expertise and management experience are called upon to further the work of the charity. Maureen lives in Halifax with her husband and grown up son.
