Vote Huddersfield Community Trust in the Aviva Community Fund

Published 4th Nov 2016 by Rebecca Walker

Huddersfield Community Trust, based at indoor venue The Zone, are urging fellow chamber members and the wider business community to support their bid for funding by voting for them through the Aviva Community Fund.

The Aviva Community Fund offers not-for-profit organisations the chance the receive funding for a project that will directly benefit the local community. They will finance over 800 projects across four different funding levels, spreading their funding contributions across communities in the UK.

Huddersfield Community Trust have submitted a bid to receive funding to build a sensory room at The Zone which will provide an area with specialist sensory equipment for children with disabilities to enjoy.

To be considered for funding, Huddersfield Community Trust must receive votes from the general public before the closing date of midday on Friday 18th November. If they receive enough votes, the project will be entered into the finals where a judging panel will decide which projects will be awarded funding.

Through various other funding activity, including 2 staff taking part in the Great North Run, Huddersfield Community Trust have already raised enough money for a specialised lift and a bed for the sensory room.

Lisa Hewitt, Chief Executive of Huddersfield Community Trust commented: "A huge number of families come to The Zone every year just to use the play area but at present we are not able to offer a comparable experience for children with disabilities. Having consulted a number of local partners on the need for a sensory room, including Mencap in Kirklees, this project has taken priority and we have already run a number of fundraising events over the last 6 months to start generating the funds needed.”

“To be awarded funding from the Aviva Community Fund would be amazing; it would mean that we could get started on building the sensory room a lot sooner than we ever anticipated. I’d like to thank anyone that has already voted for us and shown their support; it will be absolutely fantastic to be able to provide an area where children with disabilities can have the same entertaining and enjoyable experience that their siblings or friends would have in the play area."

Each voter can place ten votes, on the same project or spread across multiple projects, and votes can be placed for Huddersfield Community Trust by visiting: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/voting/projec...
