Employers have told Kirklees Council's Young Employment and Skills Board (YES), that young people are not ready for work when they finish school.
The YES Board understands the need for young people to be equipped with basic skills before entering the workplace. One way the YES Board are hoping to combat this issue is by creating an online tool; the Kirklees Learner Passport (KLP) that all young people in Kirklees will have access to.
It allows students to log all of their learning and skills inside and outside school. This will enable them to build a profile of themselves for use when applying for further education and employment.
The KLP will include an option for young people to rate their learning against competencies helping them to demonstrate their transferrable skills. The YES Board would also like to provide information on what skills are needed for each sector, so users can gain relevant experience for the career path they'd like to take - and that's where you come in.
This short eight question survey will give the young people of Kirklees the tools they need to build up competences per the sector of interest, based on what our local employers actually look for in competent employees.
