On 25th September, Andy Howarth Chairman of Cleckheaton-based member Howarths People and Safety Management, will be packing his cardboard box and swapping his suit for some warm clothing and sleeping rough on the streets of Leeds.
With nothing but the pavement for a bed and a shop doorway for shelter Andy will spend one night only on the streets to raise money for an amazing charity. Simon on the Streets (SOTS). SOTS offers street based support for those in Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford and other areas of West Yorkshire.
SOTS offer individual support to those who are or at risk of becoming homeless; those with behavioural and mental health issues; and those who are struggling with an addiction. The charity aims to and help individuals to access the services that they need to make positive change.
Andy said: “No one willingly sleeps rough every night, its cold, lonely, dangerous and degrading. Just a few quid donation will make a difference to those in real need. I'm only doing one night and afterwards will go home to a warm bath and food. The guys on the street have no such luxury, unless they get help and support, they are there every night wind, rain or shine...365 days without hope. Does anyone deserve that? I need to raise a minimum of £2000 and that will go a long way to supporting the charity! I don’t care why the people on the streets are there, I care about the fact that they are there!"
