Mid Yorkshire Chamber's International Trade Arm Sponsors Craig Whittaker MP Meeting
Last Friday the Mid Yorkshire Chamber's international trade support arm, MY Export Hub, sponsored Craig Whittaker MP's export-themed business breakfast.
The meeting was an opportunity to hear from UKTI, the Government agency charged with supporting both inward and outward investment, as well as to raise issues of concern for Mr Whittaker to feedback to Government. UKTI spoke to attendees about the various packages of support on offer to new and established exporters, from financial assistance to attend tradeshows, to market research and in-market support from British embassies. The local manufacturing industry were particularly well represented at the business breakfast and there was discussion of the great potential for British supply chains in stimulating manufacturing exports.
There was also lively debate on the key obstacles facing exporters. Exporters spoke in particular of continuing difficulties accessing finance, an issue which has been reflected in recent Chamber surveys. In addition regulatory obstacles were discussed, with issues surrounding the application of European directives a particular issue for some firms.
The meeting closed with discussion of a Calder Valley trade mission to an emerging market in 2014, to be led by Craig Whittaker. This would present a fantastic opportunity for Calder Valley businesses to join a high level mission to a potential market with full support from UKTI and MY Export Hub along the way. Companies interested in this mission, or in attending future business breakfast meetings, should contact Craig Whittaker's constituency office.
