First bus passengers in Huddersfield are set to benefit as a new local weekly bus ticket is introduced at just £12 from this weekend.
From Sunday 8 September customers will be able to buy the weekly ticket for unlimited 7-day travel within the Huddersfield town area. This represents a cut of nearly 40% for customers who currently buy the £19.50 West Yorkshire weekly ticket.
The Huddersfield town area covers most of Huddersfield extending from Ainley Top and
Bradley Bar in the North, Lepton in the East, Berry Brow and Netherton in the South and Linthwaite in the West.
This latest initiative to grow passengers follows the recent new bus investment of £1.5m and
a Meet the Customer Day in Huddersfield Town Centre last month where feedback included the request for a more local, value-for-money ticket.
Chairman of West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority, Councillor James Lewis said: "This money-saving offer is good news for the many bus users in the Huddersfield area and I look forward to seeing bus operators extending a partnership approach so that passengers across West Yorkshire can enjoy a similarly simple and affordable ticketing system which they can use on all services."
Bob Dorr, First’s Service Delivery Director in West Yorkshire, said: "This is great news for First bus passengers in Huddersfield and shows we are listening to what our customers are telling us.
"The weekly ticket at just £12 allows unlimited weekly travel for only £1.70 a day – giving customers a great reason to go and explore Huddersfield. Our aim in 2013 is to continue to give value-for-money to our customers and look to stimulate customer growth on our buses in partnership with Metro & the Local Authorities."
