With a 233% increase in children relying on charities to be fed, The Chamber jumped at the chance to support a local school through the Huddersfield Town Foundation Breakfast Club.
The 'Early Kick-Off' scheme ensures that local children start their day with a healthy, nutritious breakfast.
Initially the ‘Early Kick-Off’ scheme will directly benefit up to 50 pupils at each of five specially selected primary schools throughout the full 39 week 2012/13 academic year, made possible by generous donations to the Foundation charity, including the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and thanks to several Huddersfield Town Club Partners.
Head teacher of Hillside Primary school, Dawn Horton explained "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but many of our children start theirs without it. The Early Kick Off scheme will enable us to reach more of these vulnerable children and with the backing of the Chamber, we can be confident that this won't be just a short-term 'fix', but will have a lasting effect on the health, wellbeing and attainment of the children of Newsome."
Andrew Choi, Executive Director and Ellie Lyon, Marketing Manager from the Chamber were joined by Huddersfield Town legend Andy Booth in surprising the schoolchildren whilst they were having their breakfast last December.
