Chamber Lobbies For Flood Hit Companies

The Calder Valley Floods

In the interests of businesses and residents of the Calder Valley The Mid Yorkshire Chamber has written to the Prime Minister seeking additional financial support from the Government to match-finance the £250,000 fund already established by Calderdale Council. In addition we have sought assurances that Mr. Cameron’s pledges of support will extend to funding for future environmental, land-management, river-management and other flood-prevention measures in the Calder Valley.

We are also concerned about the ongoing availability of insurance for flood-damage in the affected areas, and have asked whether the Government is considering any suitable schemes to indemnify insurers, in some cases, so as to ensure that affordable flood insurance will continue to be made available.  We will update members with any further developments as we seek to ensure the best possible deal for companies affected by these devastating floods.
