Local Leisure Trust Looking for New Trustees

Kirklees Active Leisure, (KAL) the Charitable Trust which runs Kirklees Council’s Sports Centres and Swimming Pools, is looking to recruit volunteers to join their well established Board of Trustees.

David Heddon, Chair of The Board of Trustees said:  “Becoming a Trustee of Kirklees Active Leisure is a fantastic opportunity to work with a committed group of Trustees and managers. The Trust delivers a wide range of sport and wider physical activity programmes across Kirklees and is really making a difference to the community. As a Trustee you have the opportunity to use your skills and experience to positively influence the future direction of the Trust and the work it undertakes.”

The KAL Board of Trustees ensure that the organisation fulfils its strategic aims and objectives and that it continues to respond to the needs of the local community.

KAL works closely with partner organisations including Kirklees Council, schools and colleges, NHS Kirklees, West Yorkshire Sport, Kirklees College, Huddersfield Town FC and a host of other organisations, all committed to improving the health and well being of the people of Kirklees.

Use of KAL managed facilities has steadily increased over recent years, with over 2.2m customer visits recorded in 2010/11 and the organisation on course to increase this number further in the current year.  This increase has been helped with considerable capital investment, from both Kirklees council and KAL, into the facilities across Kirklees with almost £20m having now been spent on the 11 main sites operated by KAL.

David Heddon also commented that “Trustees have contributed significantly to the success of KAL and we now want to replace 2 current Trustee vacancies with new Trustees who can enhance the skills and expertise of the Board further.”

KAL want to attract Trustees from a range of backgrounds who are passionate about making ‘more people, more active, more often in Kirklees’.

One of the vacant Trustee positions is especially targeted at individuals with strategic finance and/or an accountancy background, while the other vacancy seeks a Trustee with skills and experience that will complement the current Board.
