On the 20th October 2011, the business community came together at the Chamber’s annual dinner and what a fabulous night we had!
On 20th October 2011, the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted their Annual Dinner, welcoming over 200 guests to the spectacular President’s Suite at the Cedar Court Hotel in Huddersfield. The Dinner represented an opportunity for Chamber members and other guests to celebrate the year’s successes, and enjoy a fantastic evening of entertainment.
The evening commenced at 6.30pm, with a drinks reception followed by a fantastic 3 course dinner at 7.30pm. Chamber President, David Horsman, began the evening’s speeches by outlining the continuing and significant role that the Chamber plays in representing its membership. Mr Horsman’s speech reflected upon a range of issues of concern facing businesses in this curent climate. However, despite the gloomy economic outlook, Mr Horsman reminded everyone that “confidence is key”.
After a superb dinner, our host, ITN’s Chris Choi, shared with the audience his own personal insight into working in television with humorous celebrity filled anecdotes. Chris then introduced our Keynote Business Speaker Ian Doubtfire, Managing Director of Jet2.com. Ian gave an interesting presentation about the success of Jet2.com, a company operating in a very difficult industry in very challenging times. Our Principal Speaker, World Cup Final Referee Howard Webb, came to the stage at around 10pm and regaled the audience with funny, motivational and inspirational anecdotes from his career in the top-flight of football.
Following the speeches, Howard Webb announced the winners of the Chamber’s iPad2 prize draw and presented the prize to Chamber members, Thornton and Ross Ltd, who revealed plans to award the iPad2 as part of a charity auction.
Chamber Executive Director Andrew Choi said: “We are absolutely thrilled that we decided to reinstate our annual dinner this year as it proved to be a very successful evening. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended; the guest speakers, our Patrons, partner organisations, our members and their guests and, of course, my team. I would also like to extend my appreciation to the Cedar Court Hotel, as the evening ran very smoothly and the food was excellent. We look forward to seeing you all at our annual dinner next year.”
