This course is an introduction to the International Commercial Terms of Delivery (INCOTERMS), including the changes to INCOTERMS as specified by the ICC in 2010. It is designed for staff involved in the administration of Import and Export activities, and covers all relevant aspects of the original and amended INCOTERMS. Given these recent legislative changes it provides an ideal opportunity for importers and exporters to ensure that they are fully up-to-date with their documentation processes.

Learning Outcomes

The learner will:

1.Be able to understand the purpose of Incoterms.

  • Explain the functions of Incoterms and the areas they cover.
  • State the latest edition of Incoterms rules, how many Incoterms there are in this edition and if there are circumstances when older Incoterms can be used.
  • Give examples of how an Incoterm should be written in an international contract of sale.

2. Be able to understand the definitions of the Incoterms 2010 rules.

  • Demonstrate their knowledge of Incoterms terms and definitions.

3. Understand the reasons for accurate export documentation and where to get help.

  • List 4 basic documents which may be required as part of the export process
  • Name sources or location of information on Commodity Codes, Embargoes and Sanctions, Export Licence, an overseas country's Tariff Rates and Custom Procedures, how to apply for a certificate of origin, how to obtain an animal/animal product health certificate.
  • Name 2 critical points under CPT, CIP, CFR and CIF rules

4. Be able to identify some of the practical issues around Incoterms.

  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of different Incoterm rules.

5. Be able to understand the reasons for Incoterms.

  • Explain why it is important to show the incoterm on commercial invoices

6. Be able to identify where to go for help and information on Incoterms.

  • Give examples of possible sources of assistance.

Individual half day courses cost £130 + VAT (members) / £150 + VAT (non members)

Courses are priced individually. A discount can be offered when booking 6 or more modules or booking 3 or more delegates on the same course.
