Policy & Representation

Photo of Steven LeighThe Mid Yorkshire Chamber liaises with Local Authorities and Government organisations on many matters of concern to our membership throughout the Metropolitan areas of Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. We represent our members on numerous local and regional bodies, and consult with local and national government on a wide range of issues. These include proposed legislation and regulation, planning and a whole raft of other topics which impact on the economic wellbeing of our members in the region. We are a fully accredited member of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) network which has extensive connections with counterpart organisations throughout the world, and by these means our members enjoy automatic links at local, national and international levels for building contacts and enhancing their businesses.

We provide a voice for the Chamber membership by lobbying constantly to obtain the best deal for business on the economy, taxation, transport, skills and on European Union issues. We understand business concerns about regulation and compliance, and we tell it like it is.

We also encourage our members to participate in our Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), which is the largest and most influential survey of its kind in the UK. Responses from our Chamber and from other UK Chambers of Commerce are incorporated into the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) national results publication. Total responses to the National Survey represent over 6000 businesses employing more than 700,000 people in the UK. We use this ever-topical information to lobby the Government for a business-friendly legislative programme which will stimulate enterprise and investment at local, regional and national levels. The survey provides a truly representative picture of the economy, and is also used by the Government, the Bank of England and other public bodies to assist with the determination of policy.
